Happy almost-spring! We’re seeing lots of green and the first flowers blooming here – and also hearing about cold back east. We hope it’s beautiful, and we’re sure that spring holds special promise for the snowbound!
We are well and have enjoyed the annual “recharge” that comes with our off-season. We’ve had a lot of fun exploring local day hike trails (with our BF dog Cedar 🙂 and short trips that included various pleasures, friends and family – especially time with Emily and Albert and their partners in Vancouver and Nelson. We’ve had new energy for our community endeavours, and the excitement of planning what’s ahead. Right now we’ve got another kayaking season on the calendar, and we’re putting energy into making sure we’re ready and that our facilities are better than ever!
Ralph has also been busy with the Discovery Islands Marine Tourism Group, local eco-businesses engaged with government and the logging industry. You can guess at the conversation, and we’re cautiously hopeful it will prove productive. Lannie is still busy with the DIEM Project; this winter’s effort is a Guide to Sensitive Ecosystems of the Discovery Islands. (Sorry: the cookbook is still down on her list of priorities!)
Around the place… it’s time to clean up after winter and Ralph’s got building projects underway. We’ve improved our trails around the 100 acres here at Read Island. Lannie’s busy planning the garden and already planting early greens and peas.
We hope you are enjoying day by day adventures and maybe thinking of a visit up our way. One of our big life joys is meeting interesting people, and reconnecting with so many people who have become friends over the years.
