Where We Are
Coast Mountain calls the Discovery Islands area home.
Ralph and Lannie Keller created a homestead at the top of Evans Bay on remote Read Island, and later built Coast Mountain Lodge. This is our home and our original lodge; we stage many of our multiday kayaking tours from Coast Mountain on Read Island. Discovery Islands Lodge is our spectacular end-of-the-road location on Quadra Island. We acquired the waterfront building in 1999 and spent a few winters giving it lots of energy and TLC. Its now a comfortable space where we offer B&B accommodation, kayak daytrips, kayak rentals – and many options for individual and group kayaking adventures in the amazing seascapes that surround us.
Read and Quadra are two of about 30 islands that make up the Discovery Islands archipelago, a mosaic of islands and narrow channels that form a maze between Vancouver island and the mainland of British Columbia. We are about 100 air miles from Vancouver, BC – and about 5 or 6 hours by ferry and ground travel. Overland, we are about 5 hours from Victoria, 2 hours from Comox, and 1 hour from Campbell River airports.
