Kayaking BC Marine Park Day Trip

A sea kayaking day tour exploring marine life and wild nature near Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada

Get a little further out on a BC sea kayaking day trip! Near Vancouver Island, in the heart of British Columbia’s outer Discovery Islands, Coast Mountain kayak day trips offer a great opportunity to learn the basics of sea kayaking while exploring the natural beauty of a remote BC marine park and an area with rich cultural history.

Our kayak day trips begin at Discovery Islands Lodge near the end of Surge Narrows Road on northern Quadra Island -- a spectacular 30-minute rainforest drive from the island community of Heriot Bay BC.

After introduction to the sea kayaks and instruction in kayaking techniques, we'll begin a our kayak adventure journeying through the calm channels between Quadra Island, Maurelle Island and Read Island in British Columbia’s Discovery archipelago.

After introduction to the sea kayaks and instruction in basic techniques, we'll begin our kayak adventure, a journey through the calm channels between the islands of Quadra, Maurelle and Read in British Columbia’s Discovery archipelago. Paddling towards the towering BC mountains our kayaking path meanders along forested shores and past remote island homesteads around the tiny west coast community of Surge Narrows.

We’ll explore the Settler’s Pass area where steamships used to provide regular service in a pioneer era and wonder at the much older native pictograph on a rocky outcrop in the pass. In our sea kayaks we'll navigate through the small islets and tidal back-eddies of Surge Narrows Marine Park.

Kayaking in the shallow waters of the tidal passage you'll have great opportunities to view the wonderful diversity of colourful marine life for which the area is famous.

Given the abundance of wildlife, you're sure to see many shore and sea birds and likely to spy mink, otter, seals and other wild creatures.

If we're lucky, dolphins or porpoise will entertain us along our kayaking route. We'll also take breaks to explore points of interest, enjoy a little beachcombing and savour the ambience of the area. Mid-day we will pause in a delightful location to enjoy our delicious & wholesome lunch.

Most Coast Mountain kayak guides live here in the Discovery Islands and will enhance your outer islands experience with colourful stories about British Columbia history and island life... All of our kayak guides are certified by the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC.

They are experienced and thoroughly familiar with the area. You can expect to learn a lot and also feel safe, secure and well looked-after!
