From Campbell River on the east side of Vancouver Island, you will take the 10-minute BC Ferry to Quathiaski Cove on Quadra Island.
Sometimes we are able to provide rides or connect you with a ride-share on Quadra Island. There is also taxi service: Quadra Taxi 250-285-3598.
QUADRA ISLAND DRIVING DIRECTIONS
From Quathiaski Cove to Heriot Bay:
Follow traffic uphill from the Quadra Island BC ferry landing and curve past the Q Cove Plaza. (You might want to stop at the tourist info center beside the Credit Union.) At the stop sign/gas station, turn right. Go past Quadra Island School and take the next left turn. Drive past the RCMP station, and continue straight ahead, about 4 km to Heriot Bay.
In Heriot Bay there are some services (store, café, shops, inn.) Just before these stores, at the old fire hall turn left onto Cramer Road.
Heriot Bay public wharf is close: drive about 150 metres on Cramer Road and take the first right at Antler Road. This is where we meet for some of our multi day sea kayak tours: Kayak Lodge Getaway, Octopus Islands, Desolation Sound, and Fjordlands kayaking Expeditions all begin with a boat ride from Heriot Bay to Coast Mountain Lodge on Read Island.
DISCOVERY ISLANDS LODGE
On Quadra Island 22 km north from Heriot Bay, we have a second lodge called Discovery Islands Lodge. At this Quadra Island location, we begin our other multiday tours (Discovery Islands, Marine Parks, Xwemahlkwu Bears Expedition) and we also offer B&B hostel accommodations, kayak day trips and kayak rentals.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
From Heriot Bay to Discovery Islands Lodge:
In Heriot Bay turn onto Cramer Road at the firehall and stay on this road 22 kilometers all the way to Discovery Islands Lodge. The road name changes - from Cramer to Hyacinthe Bay to Village Bay Lakes and it finally becomes Surge Narrows Road for the last 5 km.
You’ll enjoy the beautiful drive through classic British Columbia wilderness and Quadra Island’s Main Lakes Provincial Park. The winding road takes you into Quadra Island’s temperate rainforest ending near Discovery Islands Lodge, our B&B kayak hostel. At the end of the road you will see our sign and parking area and driveway down to the Lodge and kayaking dock.
Surge Narrows is a scenic British Columbia road, but it is narrow and there are corners with poor visibility. The road is well-maintained and fine for 2-wheel vehicles. Enjoy the forest and lake views but remember to watch for oncoming traffic!
